You know it is when you open the book and the inside of ajne cover is coated in unicorn stickers that you put there when you were eleven. I have been reading McCaffrey series including The Tower and Hive since a teenager so I have read them a number of times. Anyway, these medieval themes work for me in the Dragonriders of Pern books, but I must confess they don’t seem to belong in the Tower and the Hive series, dwmia though that is mostly what the series is about.

The first half of the book’s all Afra, the second half of the book’s largely Damia, the Rowan lurks around being moody and pregnant and fussy, Raven flits in and out like the high school quarterback, dama by all. I’ve never given 3 stars to a McCaffrey book.

Her two older siblings had this weird sibling bond and they dania to leave her out of their games. Like the Rowan, Damia is an emotionally unstable child, brilliant and full of Talent, but unmanageable.


Do you think that mccafffrey story could have ended better? A romance set in a sci-fi setting. Damia is told mainly from the point of view of Afra Lyon, the Rowan’s assistant, a character first introduced in the previous book.

I found little in the world that charmed me. This is sorta the SF equivalent of an Epic Fantasy where you read about what every character does on making camp, day after day.

Having the audiobook narration has been excellent. I love everything Ms McCaffrey wrote, with the exception of mccafffrey purely sci-fi ship ones. As it is, I’ve always skimmed this book more than read it from cover-to-cover.

I enjoyed the childhoods of both the Rowen and Damia, but once the young women grow to adult-hood, their emotional piques wear thin as does aanne primal drive for motherhood and large broods of children. What’s there is all well written, but not engaging, possessing no momentum of its own. It isn’t boring but because it doesn’t grab at your emotions there’s no One word? Want to Read saving…. Otherwise, you’re likely to get bored before the story gets anywhere, because the story really doesn’t get anywhere.
