William was the son of Bernard of Septimania and Dhuoda. Now available for the first time in paperback, it includes an afterword written by Carol Neel that takes into account recent scholarship and the revised edition of Riche’s text. Dhuoda, a noblewoman separated from her husband and much loved children, wrote this little guide for her son to instruct him in righteous living.
The Barcelona manuscript is a 14th century copy of an earlier work.
